Svetlana Kuznetsova Bio

Svetlana Kuznetsova, the Russian tennis player was known for her rapid speed which she maintained in the court, her topspin deliveries were remarkable. She was one tennis player who was efficient in producing effectual wins from her supple touched volleys.

Born on 27th June 1985 in St Petersburg, Svetlana is ranked eleventh as per the data available on July 11th 2011 in the WTA singles, and is ranked 84th in the doubles. In her four single Grand Slam appearances, she had successfully won two, and had qualified 5 times for the Round Robin Stage in the WTA Tour Championship, unfortunately though she has never qualified the semi finals.

Born in Leningrad, Svetlana’s father, Alexandr Kuznetsov was the coach of five world and Olympic cycle champions and her mother, Galina Tsareva was the 6 time world champion in cycling, with twenty world records against her name. Thus Svetlana’s hunger towards sports can be well justified from the sports-hunger genes that she inherited from her parents. Hence it was nothing surprising to see her rise in the game of international tennis, though a completely different game from which her parents belonged to. Her brother was not far behind. Nikolav Kuznetsov (Svetlana’s brother) had achieved the silver medal after achieving the second position in the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta. He had been the coach of the Russian cycling team, Lokomotiv. Svetlana has started to play tennis right from the tender age of seven. After six years she moved over to the country of Spain to obtain improved coaching’s. It was her stay in the country of Spain, which had made her so fluent in Spanish.

Svetlana’s marriage took place of 9th August 2003 with Vladmir Solodovnik. She had a very caring and loving husband; who had even donated his kidney when she was diagnosed with kidney failure. It was simply shocking for the doctors when they saw that her husband’s kidney was exactly the same type as Svetlana’s.

She was also surrounded by few controversies the prominent one among them being the issue which took place during the Wimbledon Championship 2010, where she had refused to shake hands with her opponent Anastasia (Player from Australia). She was found shaking hands only with the umpires.

Her career kicked off in the year 2000 when she had joined the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association). It was in the same year that she also won the 1st title. 2003 brought more success for her when she had reached the quarter finals of the Wimbledon match. She also came out as the runner up in the doubles of the US Open.  In the month of September she raised her position to the 7th in the doubles ranking chart.

If the God of luck favors Svetlana for the years to come, she can easily rise to the pinnacles of success with the capabilities and qualities she has as a tennis player. It won’t be far when we would find her topping the ranks of the international tennis charts.
